Biography
Daniel Gottfried
is one of the top-tier organists of his generation.
He performs regularly as a recitalist within renowned music festivals in Austria, in France as well as in other European countries. He also has several chamber music projects and performs with orchestras (among others with the Orchestre National de Lyon). His most recent recitals include performances in the cathedral of Chartres, at the Cavaillé-Coll organ of the church St-François-de-Sales in Lyon, in Auditorium National de Lyon, in the cathedral of Magdeburg (Germany), in Derby Cathedral (England) as well as in Vienna's Jesuit Church. Last summer he has been organist in residence at the festival La Chaise-Dieu (Auvergne, France), where his performances has been live transmitted in the French National Radio (France Musique).
From 2015 he is organist in Vienna's Jesuit Church, where he performs regularly during the High Masses. Since September 2018 he is teaching organ in Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK).
His musicological research has been awarded several times by the City of Vienna. In January 2019 he has published in the Revue L'Atrium (Lyon) an article in french to the subject Les Trois Pièces (1878) de César Franck : la registration comme moyen d’interpretation.
He studied organ performance and composition at the University of Music and Arts in Vienna (Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien). His main organ teacher was Michael Gailit. His teacher in composition was Christian Minkowitsch. He graduated both Master studies with unanimous distinction.
His interest and fascination for French organ music lead Daniel Gottfried to Lyon, where he studied during two years at the well-known Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in the organ class of François Espinasse and Liesbeth Schlumberger. He graduated in May 2018 with the best note ("très bien"). Further education, especially in French Symphonic organ music, he received in many masterclasses with among others Louis Robilliard, Jean Guillou and James David Christie. He attended as well the famous international organ summer academies in Haarlem (Netherlands) and Leipzig (Germany).
